Community Spotlight: Boston Public Libraries

The winter months are no time to hibernate! Cold weather just means that sometimes you’ll want to move the fun indoors. Look no further than the many branches of the Boston Public Library (BPL) to help you find all kinds of healthy, family-friendly activities.

Did you know that BPS has 28 libraries scattered throughout the city? Healthy Family Fun has reviewed the upcoming events offered through the libraries to highlight some of our favorites. Check the full BPL January Calendar for details.

South End Branch. Bring your preschool-aged child to ‘Preschool Story Time’ to enjoy stories and crafts with peers on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM.

Hyde Park Branch. Your middle-school-aged child can join the ‘Teen Video Gaming Club’ on Tuesdays from 2-4 PM. Encourage teens to get moving indoors with Guitar Hero or Wii Sports!

Parker Hall Branch. Drop in anytime between 3-7 PM Thursdays for ‘Open Art’ with fun, creative art projects. All ages are welcome.

Adams Branch. With the return of cold weather comes the library’s ‘Winter Playgroup’ on Fridays at 9:30 AM. Children ages 1-6 can entertain themselves with toys, crafts, puppets, books, and music during playgroup. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Uphams Corner Branch. Pre-reading children and their parents or caregivers are invited to ‘Family Story Time’ on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AM. Together you can read stories, sing songs, and act out rhymes and fingerplays! Story time lasts 20 to 30 minutes and is followed by a craft and an open playtime.

Keep in mind that these events are just a sampling of what the Boston Public Libraries have to offer in the coming months. If we forgot to include your favorite event, please let us know in the comments section below.
