Community Spotlight: Moakley Park

Joe Moakley Park is a major center of outdoor activity in South Boston. This huge, Southie greenspace located along the lovely Carson beach shoreline of Dorchester Bay is the perfect place to bike, walk, and play through the summer. Moakley Park has something for every family member to enjoy including:

  • A sports center with a full day summer program for kids ages 7-14 offered by the Boston Center for Youth and Families
  • A playground with swings and slides for all ages
  • 1 soccer field
  • A running track
  • 1 tennis court
  • 2 basketball courts
  • 4 baseball and softball diamonds

Moakley’s play areas and athletic fields are all connected by the 2.6 mile Strandway (or William J. Day Boulevard) to the L Street Beach, Pleasure Bay, Castle Island, and the neighboring sections of the beautiful Boston Harborwalk. You’ll never run out of areas to explore in this natural wonderland. South Boston is calling so go ahead and take a summer stroll in the sunshine.
