With Mother’s Day approaching this Sunday May 14th, there are many ways you can show some extra love to the mothers and important people in your life. So after you surprise mom with a traditional breakfast in bed (look for yummy recipes on our blog here), check out some of the events happening throughout the city of Boston:
- Lilac Sunday: Picnic among lilacs! The Arnold Arboretum’s large collection of lilacs are in full bloom in May, so take a visit this “Lilac Sunday” to enjoy family-friendly activities for Mother’s Day. Pack up some food and bring a blanket to sit on because this is the only day out of the year the Arboretum allows picnics! This event is FREE and will take place from 10 am – 4 pm.
- Mother’s Day at the Zoo: Moms get in free all day at Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo, so go and say hi to all the animal moms!
- The Duckling Day Parade: Inspired by Robert McCluskey’s classic children’s book set in Boston, Make Way for Ducklings, the Duckling Day Parade is an especially fun event for mothers of young children. The parade route starts in Boston Common and ends in the Public Garden, following the path that Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their ducklings take in the story. Parents often dress their kids up in adorable duckling costumes, so take advantage of the opportunity now before they grow up and take back their dignity! Registration is $35 per family. See the Friends of the Public Garden website to register.
Happy Mother’s Day!
