It can be hard to motivate yourself to exercise or play outside with your kids when it gets hot in summer. So this summer, try to swim more! There are a bunch of great places in Boston where you can cool off and exercise in the water. Swimming is great exercise for people of all ages and something the whole family can do together.
There are plenty of swimming programs throughout the city this summer, like at the YMCA or BCYF centers. You can also take advantage of open swim time at community pools. Check out our list of places to swim in Boston or the BCYF Summer Guide for 2015.
If you want to spend some time on the water, but swimming isn’t your thing, try out kayaking! It’s good exercise and an excellent way to see Boston from a new angle. You can kayak out at the Harbor Islands, on Jamaica Pond, or on the Charles River.
Keep in mind these safety tips whenever your or your children are around water:
- When outside, wear sunscreen and reapply often
- Always swim with a buddy
- Use life jackets for young or inexperienced swimmers
- Don’t leave children unattended near water
