#HealthCenterSpotlight: Martha Eliot Health Center

Martha Eliot Health Center is our #HealthCenterSpotlight of the month! For the past fifty years, this Boston Children’s Hospital-affiliated health center has taken care of the neighboring Jamaica Plain area.

Martha Eliot offers a variety of fitness sessions and food access activities. The health center holds a Cooking Matters family class as well as seasonal cooking sessions. In partnership with UMass Boston, the Center also hosts twelve different nutrition classes, offering healthy cookbooks to enrollees. Martha Eliot provides Fair Foods and Fresh Truck vouchers along with Stop & Shop grocery gift cards for families in need. The emphasis on nutrition and health extends to Martha Eliot employees; staff has seasonal Lunch & Learns about nutrition and well-being. Employees are encouraged to bring their kids to a monthly ‘play clinic,’ which includes a healthy dinner. Over the summer, be sure to check out Martha Eliot’s regular farmers’ markets. Kohl’s is proud to be a funding partner for the different fitness and nutrition activities at Martha Eliot.

Besides nutrition, Martha Eliot has also implemented the Fitness in the City (FIC) program, aimed to get kids moving and active. Other initiatives include seasonal activities, afterschool programs, and summer family nights in partnership with the Mildred C. Hailey House next door. Don’t miss out on the annual Health and Safety Fair, held every September.

Additionally, Martha Eliot provides a variety of pediatric clinical services, a young adult-focused clinic, behavioral health services, optometry, and lab services. Counselors help with mental health, at-risk adolescent cases, and HIV services.
